After a site visit, the Boston observation team completes the Summary Sheet to make recommendations on best practices to share with community and school district.

This document provides an overview of the materials observers in Boston use to document, collect and analyze observations of arts teaching and learning.

In Boston, observers take a running record to describe what happens during their site visit. Observers take unbiased notes of what they see and hear in two minute intervals.  After the observation is complete, they then note each interval with the dimension(s) observed.
After each site visit observers in Boston create a Profile of Arts Learning. In the profile observers have the opportunity to demonstrate their familiarity with the dimensions of quality teaching and learning, marking to what degree each of the dimensions was apparent and noting evidence from the observation.

During the site visits in Boston, observers interview the school’s principal (or other school leader) regarding their vision for the arts in their building and how they support quality arts learning.
